Details

BlueJacket Shipcrafters is probably the oldest American ship model kit manufacturer in existence. The products from this company vary from small plank-on-frame kits of classic American pleasure boats and workboats, to solid hull wooden kits of famous American ships and ship types.

One kit of a famous American ship is this 1/96-scale kit of the 310' "four piper" destroyer USS Ward, which was credited with the first sinking of an enemy vessel in WWII, when she detected and engaged a Japanese midget submarine attempting to enter Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

Her sister ship, USS Reuben James, was the first American ship lost to enemy action during WWII, and the USS Campbelltown made fame when she rammed the drydock gates during the raid on St. Nazaire.

This solid hull model kit measures just under 40" long when completed, and includes the pre-shaped solid hull, fittings in britannia pewter, laser-cut wooden parts, photo etched prass parts, newly revised plans and instruction booklet. A CD showing the development of this revised kit and the display model completed from the new materials is also available.
